Rolfing…the next level of my bodywork knowledge
August 27th, 2011 by Joachim Creten
I am pleased to announce that I have been accepted to the Rolfing Institute, Boulder, Colorado the end of this year. Rolfing is a structural integration technique focusing on better heath through proper body posture. It was developed by Ida Rolf and has been embraced worldwide since the 1970s. My first experience w/Rolfing was a year ago. On a recommendation from a client I value, I committed to a 10 session series w/a Rolfer in Santa Barbara. Each session focuses on a different part of the body. Some sessions were intense, others were down right painful. I continued with the series because the results were amazing. I felt lighter & freer in movement than I had in years. My anxiety and stress levels were alleviated by the work as well. I continue to go monthly to maintain the work that was done. In the past year in sharing this experience I have heard from many people that are familiar w/the word Rolfing that they associate it with PAIN. That is unfortunate. Early Rolfers did not use oils and that made the strokes more painful than they are today. As anyone who has ever had a massage with me knows, if there is “pain” during a session it is in an area of your body that needs work. Rolfing not only relieves the pain but realigns the body posture to deter it from reoccurring. The net results are well worth a few seconds of discomfort. I am so excited to learn this technique and share it w/my clientele.
